Closure due to Covid-19 pandemic until 8 March 2021

Please be aware that we are closed until 8 March 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, under instruction of the UK government. We are not yet in a position to confirm the details of the Transition Days in July 2021 until after schools have reopened fully during the remaining Spring and Summer terms. We will of course keep in touch regularly with Y6 parents in the weeks and months ahead and ensure all arrangements are made for Transition, ahead of the September 2021 start for our new students. If you have any queries or concerns please email

Virtual School Tour

We have recently produced this virtual school tour, during Covid-19 closure, to support our Year 6 families in the weeks ahead as we continue our attention towards Transition. Whilst it is now likely that July’s Transition Week and Transition Evening will not happen in the conventional way, we are still determined to use all means we can to reduce any anxieties about moving up to secondary school. We will continue to share Transition information via social media, emails and on this, our regularly updated Transition webpage:
There are many other ways we will be supporting Year 6. Do watch this space!

Our virtual school tour is on YouTube and has been optimised for viewing on mobile devices.
The link is:
We hope you find it helpful.

Many thanks to Mrs Gibson and Mr Pratt for their work making the tour happen.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Likely to change due to Covid-19

How is the School Uniform organised? – note these arrangements have changed due to Covid-19
We will provide a full uniform to Year 7 students when they start the school. As students grow out of their uniform, parents are expected to buy official replacements, and there are more details about how to do this here:
A letter has been sent home to parents with instructions for ordering the uniform bundle.

What are the Transport arrangements?
Over the coming months we will liaise with Partner Primary Schools and parents on an individual basis to design the best transport arrangements during the Transition period. For many students it is hoped they can get used to using the means of transport that will be undertaken from September.

What equipment will my child need?
All students will be provided with a Planner in September 2021. They are expected to have a school bag that is large enough to contain an A4 folder. The basic equipment that is required from September is:

  • A black pen
  • A red pen
  • A pencil and pencil sharpener
  • An eraser
  • A scientific calculator
  • A protractor
  • A 6 inch ruler

What are the lunchtime arrangements?
Year 7 students have their lunch as a year group, between 12.30 – 1.00pm. This ensures there is minimal queuing time and that they can eat together in their first year at the academy. The catering is provided by Robertsons who operate a ‘ParentPay’ system. Parents can load student accounts from home, or students can add money using two optical finger recognition stations in the school. We will provide log-on details for parents in due course, and there is no need to contact Robertsons directly at this stage. For more details visit:

SEN and Inclusion

During recent months, colleagues have been visiting primary schools to meet Year 6 teachers to gather crucial transition information. Colleagues from several of our partner primary schools will also be working alongside Year 6 students at Outwood Academy Normanby during this week in July as part of the Transition process. [No longer possible in school due to Covid-19]

Question Form

If you have a question that you think the answer would be of use to other Year 6 parents, please email or use the form below, and relevant information will be added to the Frequently Asked Questions section of this page. We will of course also answer specific questions relating to your child directly via this form.

Answers to Questions – Previous Transition Events

We look forward to welcoming Year 6 parents and carers to our Year 6 Transition Evening on Monday 13 July 2020 at 5.30pm. At the occasion, we obviously hope your child will have enjoyed their first day at Outwood Academy Normanby. After the presentation on that evening, we will once again post on this page answers to questions that are raised, for the benefit of all parents/students. These will later be drawn together into a handy document that can be printed and downloaded from our website.

These points were raised, to seek further clarification, on our Transition Evening back in July 2019.

PE Trainers
All students should have a pair of trainers for every PE lesson. They can be any colour.

Football Boots
Students will require football boots for certain activities throughout the year. They can be any colour, and can have moulded studs/blades or the screw-in types.

Free Year 7 Provided Uniform
New students in Year 7 will receive a free uniform consisting of: blazer, tie, trousers or skirt, two white shirts, PE kit: polo shirt, rugby shirt, shorts, socks. Where parents purchase ‘spares’ or additional items in the future these must be the official branded versions available online from Trutex. This year we also established Bambini of Guisborough as a stockist of replacement/spare items. Measuring is 14 July 2020, during the school day and collection is 17 August 2019 Details of collection times are above but also on our dedicated uniform page here:

PE Tracksuit Bottoms
These are not provided free. If you want to purchase some, they can be plain black without logos or stripes which are generally cheaper from sports shops but can also be the official ones via Trutex, or at Bambini of Guisborough.

Sports Leggings/Thermal Leggings
These can be worn for PE lessons, provided they are proper sports leggings and are worn in addition to PE shorts. They cannot be worn without PE shorts.

Paying For Lunches (During Transition)
The fingertip recognition system will be set up. Students can load cash onto their account when in school, using one of the two machines. From September, parents will be able to load money onto their child’s account using ParentPay remotely via the internet.

Free School Meals during Transition
The academy has an agreement with primary schools so that free school meals continue to be provided during the Transition weeks, whilst Year 6 students are on their visit to us. If there has been an issue with this for your child, please contact either Karen Bullock, Exams & Data Officer/FSM on or Debbie Smith, Principal’s PA/Office Manager on or the Year 6>7 Learning Manager Mrs Laverick via
