Welcome to our page primarily aimed at Year 6 parents, who are considering a place for their son/daughter at Outwood Academy Normanby from September 2021. We are a ‘new’ school, formed on the 1 September 2019, when the predecessor Hillsview Academy joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT) and became Outwood Normanby. Our Principal, Andrew Wappat, took up his position in July 2019, following 5 successful years leading Outwood Academy Bydales, now one of the top performing schools in the North of England, and supporting other Outwood academies in the Northern region as an Associate Executive Principal.
We are holding a Virtual Open Evening on Thursday 8 October that goes ‘live’ at 6pm. The page will contain videos from students and staff, a presentation to parents by the Principal, a virtual tour and an online question form.
Do save the weblink which is: www.normanby.outwood.com/openevening where there is a short video in advance of Thursday.
We are now a very popular school, and we were delighted to receive record numbers of applications by Year 6 parents during 2019-2020 for a place in Year 7 in September 2020. The school is now oversubscribed in that year group, and numbers continue to grow in other year groups as well. Please do follow us on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram where you can look back at images and stories about our journey over the last academic year and all that has been going on.
Outwood Grange Academies Trust is the admission authority for the academy and is responsible for determining its admission arrangements. The Trust has determined that all admissions will be through the Local Authority’s co-ordinated admission arrangements, in partnership with all other local secondary schools.
Applications for places at the Academy will, therefore, need to be made in accordance with the statutory Admission Code and will be made on the Common Application Form provided and administered by the Local Authority on behalf of Outwood Grange Academies Trust.
The Authority has determined co-ordinated admission schemes as required by law for the next academic year. This means that a parent completes the Common Application Form expressing up to three preferences and the Authority liaises with schools and other local authorities on their behalf. The Local Authority will inform the parent of the outcome of their application, including the reason for the refusal and information on the appeals process if a place if refused at any of their preferred schools.
The Local Authority will let parents know the outcome of Year 7 applications on behalf of the Academy on the national offer day, which is 1 March 2021.
Details of how to get in touch with the Redcar & Cleveland Admissions Team are shown further down this page, as is the link to apply for a place in secondary school, ahead of the deadline of 31 October 2020.
Our Admissions Policy for 2021/2022 can be found by clicking here or by scrolling further down this page.
In the past, any parent wishing to consider the academy for their child would have been able to contact the academy for an appointment with the Principal to look around. However, given the changes due to Covid-19, and the planned reopening to all students in September, albeit in self-contained year group bubbles, we are not currently taking appointments. We will of course let all Year 6 parents know when this situation changes.
It is important to note that anyone can apply for a place at Outwood Academy Normanby, regardless of where they live. It is NOT a requirement to live in the old ‘admission zone’. Please note that many students that currently attend our school live outside the former named catchment zone. Parents can apply for apply for a place at any secondary school. However, when that school becomes oversubscribed, that the distance from the school becomes a factor in allocation of places.
All students who applied for a place at the former Hillsview Academy were successful in obtaining a place for September 2019, however by September 2020 it is important to note that the number of first choice applications to the new Outwood Academy Normanby had nearly doubled, and we received more applications that the 150 places available. As a result there were a number of appeals for a place at the academy in Year 7. It is important that if you want a place, that you apply. Some who did not, were unsuccessful at appeal.
The deadline for applications for a Year 7 place in a Redcar & Cleveland school from September 2021 is 31 October 2020. The deadline for applications for a place from September 2022 will be 31 October 2021.
If you would like your child to have the opportunity to join us in Year 7 from September 2021 please contact us directly on: 01642 454577 or via email@example.com In the past we were more than happy to offer a tour of the school including visiting classrooms during the normal school working day, but under Covid-19 this is no longer possible, but we are exploring the possibility of tours at other times.

Our main partner primary schools are as follows:
We also have small numbers of students from:
Ormesby, Park End, Sacred Heart. St.Gabriel’s, Wheatlands and others.
We are currently planning to hold a virtual, online Year 6 Open Evening during September 2020, as it does not appear possible to be able to run our traditional Open Evening safely at this time.
This entry has been left on the page to show our historical approach, and for updating should the guidance from the government regarding large gatherings of people of different ages in one place changes.
Our previous Year 6 Open Day and Open Evening was on Wednesday 11 September 2019. The Evening was 6.00 – 8.00pm, starting promptly with a Presentation by the Principal, Andrew Wappat at 6.00pm. Parents and students were on that occasion welcomed to visit during the school day between 9.00am – 10.30am or 1.00pm – 2.00pm. We asked that parents arrived at either 9.00am or 1.00pm prompt, to gain the most benefit. It was also helpful where parents on that occasion emailed their intention to visit during the day to email@example.com. Invitations and information went out last year via our main partner primary schools in the first week of September. Copies were also made available on during the day, and on the night. To download the historical invitation, our historical prospectus and various inserts you can still click on the document links below:
