Live Year Group Assemblies re: Online Learning on Wednesday 8 December

Wed 08 Dec 2021
Introduction

Unfortunately our school is closed today (Wednesday) due to storm damage to the roof that makes it unsafe. The roof is being repaired today so that we will be open tomorrow, Thursday 9 December. This information was delivered to students via year group assemblies this morning, to ensure everyone was aware of how today’s learning has been organised, and so students are reminded of our expectations within live lessons.

Information shared with students was as follows:

Organisation of the Day

  • Use the timetable in your planner to follow your lesson timetable for Wednesday.
  • Lessons will be at exactly the same time as they would be if you were at school.
  • Log into the Google classroom for the lesson you should have at that time.
  • There will be a Google meet link for you to join the live lesson - this might be pasted into the stream, at the side of the home page or in the banner at the top of the classroom.
  • Please be punctual to each lesson.
  • Teachers will only make the link visible to students after the lesson begins so please wait until it appears.

Changes

  • If a member of staff is absent, your class may be merged with another class or work will be uploaded into the Google classroom for you to complete independently.

  • If your class is being merged there will be a message in your classroom and a link for you to join another class.

  • If you have an Accelerated Reader (AR) lesson today, you must go to your usual English classroom and your AR teacher will post a link for you there.

Access Issues

  • If you, or someone in your class, has forgotten their S number or password to log in, an email can be sent to the senior member of staff linked to that year group using the email addresses shared in assembly.

Expectations

We want everyone to have a positive and productive experience during online learning. With this in mind, there are some rules that you must follow:

  • Listen to your teacher and follow their instructions at all times.
  • Cameras must be on so that teachers know who has logged into their lessons.
  • Your microphone must be on mute - to avoid feedback and echoing - at all times unless you are asked to unmute to answer a question.
  • You can raise your hand to get the teacher’s attention or ask a relevant question in the chat.
  • Be polite when interacting with teachers and other students.

All lessons will be recorded.

Unacceptable Behaviour

Behaviour and conduct which is not safe, respectful or responsible (not following the rules you have just been given) is considered completely unacceptable and may result in you being removed from the online lesson and academy’s online community. This includes specifically:
  • Verbal abuse to teachers and students.
  • Deliberately disrupting the lesson.
  • Bullying of students.
  • Posting or showing on your screen anything deemed inappropriate.

Parents/carers will be notified of any unacceptable behaviour.

Finally

The Virtual Classroom provides a unique opportunity for us all to work together in a new environment.

We hope that all students can respect the rules which will allow us to work collaboratively and maintain our school community and standards.

Have a great day and take up the opportunity to engage fully in your online learning.
